Day 63
I walked into the North Jersey Playhouse for the first time and there was Charles Nelson Riley wearing a dress. I found home.
It took 3 busses getting to the playhouse and in cold weather I warmed myself in a neighborhood bar. The producer Robert Ludlum noticed that oftentimes I had no dinner and gave me $5.00 a week, which was enough for yogurt and raisons. School became secondary, and I cut about 3 times a week because I got home so late when one of the actors took me drove me after the 3 AM closing time in New Jersey. I had to pry open a window to get in the house.I think my education was better than going to school- and I did not miss the social life. Even today, I love knowing people of all ages, backgrounds, and stories. Being sequestered in type seems limiting and in fact a tad frightening.
