Day 49
When I was a kid, my brother and I were sent off to the movies on Saturday. We were told not to come home. This meant sneaking into the girls bathroom after each showing (3) and then resuming our seats. I usually liked the "adult" pictures better. One of my favorites was The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951). All these years later, this film and the message sticks with me-and probably foreshadowed my choice of reading and what I shared with students. Even, as a child I was sensitive to human foibles-observed- inequality- and yearned for a peaceful and loving world. Maybe I saw the wise Klaatu as a Father figure, one so sorely missed.
