When I was writing my dissertation, I watched the Soap Opera Another World and had a crush on the actor who played Mitch. About the time I finished writing he was shot and written off the show. I decided to write him a thank you note. A friend gave me National Lampoon stationary--I left my phone number. He called and we became telephone friends.
